Biography

Producer Alvin Patrick was born on October 24, 1964 in Willemstad, Curaçao, Netherlands Antilles to Edith C. Philips Patrick and Alvin A. Patrick, Sr. He received his B.A. degree in communications with a focus on broadcast journalism in 1986 from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York and his M.F.A. degree in television production in 1988 from Brooklyn College.

Patrick began his broadcast network career at ABC in 1989, where he served as a producer first for ABC Sports, then for ABC News’ Day One, Good Morning America, and World News Tonight with Peter Jennings. He then joined HBO in 1999, where he was a broadcast producer for Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel. Patrick subsequently was hired by MTV as a vice president and executive producer for sports and specials also for MTVU, where he worked from 2001 to 2004. He then served as executive producer of ESPN’s First Take (formerly Cold Pizza) and ESPN News from 2005 to 2009. Subsequently, Patrick re-joined ABC as a senior producer of ABC News’ Nightline from 2009 to 2011, when he was hired as a senior producer of News Corporation’s digital newsmagazine The Daily until 2012. Patrick then accepted a position as a senior producer at CBS News in 2012, where he produced stories across all shows and platforms, including CBS This Morning, 60 Minutes, CBS Evening News, Sunday Morning, 48 Hours, Face The Nation, and CBSN with special correspondent James Brown. In 2020, Patrick was named executive producer of CBS News’ Race and Culture Unit. He also has taught journalism and communications at the New York Institute of Technology and the University of Bridgeport.

Patrick has served as a trustee of Marist College, chair of Harbor Science and Arts Charter School, member of the president’s council of the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, and board member of Governance Matters.

Patrick has received numerous honors and awards for his work, including six National Emmy Award nominations, six National Association of Black Journalists Awards, the Gabriel Award and the Freddie Award. He also shared two Edward R. Murrow Awards with his colleagues at CBS News. In 2021, Patrick received the Leadership in Journalism Award from 100 Black Men of New York. In 2015, he received the Marist College Distinguished Alumni Medal, the highest award given to a Marist graduate. In 2012, Patrick joined the “Wall of Achievers” of his high school alma mater, Martin Luther School in Maspeth, New York.

Patrick and his wife, Beverly Jocelyn-Patrick, live in Fairfield County, Connecticut. They have two children, Arielle K. Patrick and Andrew K. Patrick.
