Biography

Entrepreneur Dorian Mullens was born on October 16, 1969 in Buffalo, New York to Lula and Delbert Mullens. He received his B.S. degree in industrial engineering studies in 1992 from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan and his M.B.A. degree with a concentration in finance in 1997 from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Mullens, whose expertise is in manufacturing, worked as a senior financial analyst at Old Kent Bank in Grand Rapids, Michigan from 1998 to 2000. In 1999, he joined Wesley Industries, later Wesley International and the Wesley Group, his family’s holding company based in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, as executive vice president. Wesley Industries included New Haven Foundry, Flint Coatings, Yale Powder Coatings, Arnold Defense and Electronics, and Dorman Energy with annual revenues of over $100 million. He also worked as executive vice president and engineer at the New Haven Foundry iron works, in New Haven, Michigan, which manufactured automotive engine parts, from 1998 to 2002. Mullens worked as president and CEO of Modern Packaging Corporation, which manufactured folding cartons, in Monroe, Michigan from 2001 to 2002, when he founded and worked as president and CEO of Dorman Energy in Jackson, Michigan. From 2003 to 2004, Mullens worked as executive vice president and partner at Arnold Defense and Electronics, a defense manufacturing company. From 2009 to 2012, Mullens worked as president and CEO of Sterling Prospect, which dealt in sales to online universities. Mullens also has served as president and CEO of the computer technology company Afflon, president and CEO of the international commodities company Valindo. In 2015, Mullens and his father founded Proteus Trade and Commodities, partnering with Venezia Food and Beverages in India. In 2017, Mullens joined the advisory firm Hilkiah Group LLC and, in 2019, Mullens became an owner and director of MTB Golf Resort Bhopal Private Limited in Raisen, India. Mullens has also served as a distinguished guest lecturer at Tennessee State University’s School of Management as well as on the board of the construction company MJC of Michigan and the board of the India-based artificial intelligence company AIVOT, which he joined in 2015.

Mullens has served has as a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. since 1995 and as a member of the Michigan Minority Business Development Council. In 2001, he joined the board of the not-for-profit World Exposure, Inc., where he served as its vice-chairman. In 2020, he joined the board of the youth development not-for-profit Empowered Minds, Inc., where he also has served as its vice-chairman.

Mullens and his wife, Cecelia Mullens, live in Sterling Heights, Michigan. They have two children, Nya and Kalyn.
